Building plugins for Rust

Building plugins on a Rust server change how bases are placed, upgraded, secured and maintained — enforcing grade rules, capping deploys, removing misplaced pieces and stopping decay. Admins reach for this category when a vanilla wipe cycle lets players spam foundations, wall off monuments or skip upkeep entirely, and the goal is a rule set that still feels like Rust but stays fair across the population.

About building plugins

The mechanics here split into limits and helpers. Grade limits restrict which construction skins a player may set, so stone or sheet bases can be gated behind permissions. An auto upgrade on build lets one build pass climb to a chosen grade instantly, which removes the upgrade-tool shuffle but changes raiding economics — pair it with a tool cupboard auth limit so large clans cannot share a base freely. Deployable limits and block building near monuments both work on placement hooks and need testing at monument edges, since the blocked radius determines how much open space players have left.

The helpers read cleaner: a remove tool refunds and deletes a piece the player just placed, auto closing doors shut themselves after use, auto code locks assign a lock on placement, and no decay pauses upkeep damage on selected entities.

Most of these ship with an Oxide config for limits and messages, and limit-style features are usually permission-gated. Decay and limit changes should be reviewed each wipe, because thresholds tuned for a 200-pop server will feel wrong after a monthly reset.
